Class 2S

Welcome to Iguanas Class

Mrs. Irving (Teacher)

The children are settling into their new classroom and routines very well. We are working hard on our first topic all to do with traditional tales, which includes an exciting DT project where the children will design, make and evaluate their own hand puppet based on a character from one of the stories we are looking at. In maths we will be studying place value, partitioning of numbers and learning to recognise the >, < signs, followed by addition and subtraction of 2 digit numbers. Science is all about animals, habitats and food chains and to support this we are going on our first trip to a local nature reserve. Next half term is all about India. If you wish to know more about the Year 2 curriculum please see the curriculum map on the class page.

Every school year is important to your child’s education and year 2 is especially important in preparing your child for the juniors. As well as learning academic subjects the children will be learning vital interpersonal skills that will equip them for their future, for example, taking responsibility for themselves and others and listening and communication skills. Each week the children will have a spelling test and a number test where they can try to beat their last score. Any child who achieves 10 out of 10 will be rewarded with a house point. Please help your child to learn their spellings each week as well as reading with them on a daily basis. The children will be choosing and changing their own books in school once per week. If they run out of reading material let them select a book from home or something from the library.

May I remind you that as the days are now getting cooler and wetter, please could you ensure that your child brings a suitable coat to school each day.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. If you have any queries remember my class room door is always open and I will do my best to see you as quickly as possible.

Kind regards

Mrs. Irving
